Music Theory : Online Lessons 2020 (April - July)

From 7 April 2020 till 22 July 2020, our Music Masters Department have been working hard in the context of carrying out online Music Theory sessions for our dear members to ensure that they are constantly improving their musical knowledge throughout the whole Movement Control Order period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since extra-curricular activities have been put to a halt following the media statement released on 13 March 2020.

In this period of time, a total of 34 theory classes have been conducted with an average 2-hour session each. Beginners and Juniors had their theory class weekly on Wednesdays, 8.00pm while Seniors had their weekly class that was scheduled on Saturdays 8.00pm

With that said, our Music Theory Online Lessons have been fully managed by Jing Xuan (Vice President 2), Yui Xi (Music Master), Jia Yu (Assistant Music Master) and Jeriel (Trainee Music Master), being the speakers throughout these 3 months. A total of 3 online teaching platforms have been experimented, which are Zoom, Cisco Webex and Google Meet to find the best online teaching tool to ensure the knowledge is clearly portrayed and presented to ease members' understanding.

It is believed that the weekly 2-hour sessions did our members good as they were able to maintain a continuous source of input for their musical knowledge which is essential in making wonderful music as an individual and as a team. Also, they got to test their understanding and sharpened their analysing skills through the Quizziz quizzes, handouts and exercise materials prepared by the 4 speakers weekly.

Moreover, upon our recent establishment of our direct senior-junior system, seniors helped out to make this online project a success by aiding the Music Department to check their direct juniors' homework and they too provided their juniors with additional help or explanations when necessary. We also had Google Classrooms set up to monitor members' progress by assignments.

Lastly, we would like to thank our members for the constant cooperation and attention during the classes. It is hoped that members will continue to work hard to achieve their goals in their music pathway and take up the initiative and responsibility to improve themselves. Keep up the good work and we will see you guys around! Stay safe!
